Dining under the stars in the vines

Last night we had a fantastic experience eating amazing food and drinking great wine at Villa Vigne which is close by.

The Saputi family own a create Cantine and produce amazing wines, all of which are delicious.

They also own Villa Vigne, an agriturismo which gives them the opportunity to stage events and serve their wines.

The white wines include chardonnay, sauvignon blanc and also ribona.

Ribona is a grape variety that little is known about outside of this area and Saputi are on a mission to make the Ribona grape their own.

The sparkling Ribona is dry and refreshing and a great start to any meal as an aperitive.

The Ribona Camerena is still white wine which can be drunk now when it is fresh or it can be stored for a number of years over which time it will deepen in flavour and colour. They gave us the opportunity to try both the 2022 and 2020 vintages so we could experience how this wine develops over time in the bottle.

The meal was hosted by a renowned local chef with great ingredients cooked and served with flare .

The menu started with some canapes - a small savoury tomato doughnut filled with smoked ricotta and a melon ball served in a shot glass that has been marinated in vinaigrette.

Next we sat down at tables in the vines lit by festoon lighting with great music played on vinyl records and were served the following:

• Roasted and fresh tomato salad

• Carpaccio of beef with dark cherries and truffle

• Green lasagne filled with ricotta peaches and veal sauce

• Iberico pork cooked on the open fire with apricots

• Cheesecake served with a small glass of their delicious dessert wine which is not generally available

Finally we were offered a choice of grappas to finish us off!

All in all it was a great night and experience to remember
